Odds and Ends
Just got interrupted here with Maria and student belting out "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" as part of her English lesson. They were reading lyrics and following along on Youtube. I made mistake of applauding, so then got dragged into joining in next couple Paul Anka songs. We did a mean "Diana."
Here's a few more pictures from whatever Sunday we had our excursion to Capitolino. Alba had taken many photos, and delivered them to me on a disc.
Cannoli for Mom
This is much easier than writing. I should just post pictures from now on. For lunch today, I went back to my neighborhood, La Forchetta d'Oro to say goodbye to Omar. Now that he knows I'm un avvocato (lawyer), that is now my name. When I show up it is "Buongiorno avvocato." He then proceeds to introduce me to whoever is in the restaurant. Today we were joined by a group of important looking people who Omar explained were "i fascisti." I was trying to eat light, but forgot that whatever I ordered would be supplemented by whatever extras he wanted to give me. Then, he forced an after dinner grappa on me. Here's Omar saying "ciao e grazie avvocato."
Sorry, I guess lighting not the best.
Maria Grazia was a bit late regarding dinner, and even though I told her no need to prepare anything, she decided to keep it very simple. She fixed pasta e ceci (pasta with chick peas, garlic, and a bit of anchovie) and a type of spedini. As always, excellent! In addition to it being Laura's birthday tomorrow, it is also Italy's birthday. So, I'll probably come across some celebration tomorrow. A domani. Ciao

Glad to hear everyone there will be celebrating my birthday properly! Find a good party and celebrate for me.
ReplyDeleteOh, Giuseppe. Once again, I am so pleased and happy to see how very content you appear in these photos. You should consider a re-entry program on the way back to the US. I cannot imagine tearing myself away from all of this is I were you. You have truly become a "regular," both at La Forchetta, and in the hearts of many locals. I'm both ecstatic for you, and I'm jealous, at the same time! But... bravo, Giuseppe, bravo. And, I do very much appreciate each of these posts. Maria Grazie's pasta e ceci was the favorite "go-to" suppper of mia nonna, and so it is a special supper for me! You may already know this, but Frank at Osteria i Nonni is nicknamed "Cecc''" (cheech, to mudigans), named after this delightful tuber. I, too, am celebrating La Liberazione tomorrow, with the usual suspects. It, of course, will be a lenten feast this year, as it falls on Holy Thursday. As for your pictures, I love the photos of i paccheri, your hand on Maria Grazia's head, the cannoli, the she-wolf feeding Romulus and Remus, and, perhaps especially, the one of you and Omar. I think he is going to miss his avvocato americano. But, as sad as it will be, thinking of leaving Rome within the next few days, you will have the excitement and prospects of Sicily. And what exciting prospects they are. "Afferra il toro per le corna." Fino alla prossima volta, abbracci e buona fortuna!
